On 25th of March people all over Estonia lighted candles to commemorate more than 22 000 Estonians that were violently deported by the Soviet regime to Siberia on March 25, 1949.

Traditionally nearly 20 000 candles were lit on the Freedom Square in Tallinn where for the first time was possible to see a projection of the names of more than 32 000 people who were deported, killed, imprisoned, managed to escape or were born in Siberia to the families that were deported.

Commemoration Day was organised by NGO Tulipisar together with Estonian Institute of Human Rights, Unitas, Eesti Memento Liit and several youth organisations.

Gallery of the commemoration at the Freedom Square can be found here.
