On 11 December, representatives of #LIBERATECRIMEA civic movement and well-known Ukrainian human rights defenders presented the advocacy campaign “MP, help Crimean prisoners!”, which aims to free political prisoners from Crimea currently imprisoned by Russia. As part of the campaign, MPs of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada are requested to conduct advocacy activities to free individual Crimean political prisoners. The presentation of the campaign was attended by the renowned Ukrainian human rights defender, film-maker and laureate of the Sakharov Prize of freedom of thought Oleg Sentsov, chair of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, Crimean Tatar human rights defender and former political prisoner Edem Bekirov and others. Estonian Institute of Human Rights was represented by indigenous peoples’ rights expert Oliver Loode.
