#LIBERATECRIMEA Volunteers from Ukraine and the EU were trained in Kyiv

14.10.2018

The first training of volunteers of international civic movement #LIBERATECRIMEA was held in Kyiv on October 12-14, 2018. During three days, 23 volunteers from Ukraine and the European Union (including UK, Ireland and Latvia) learned about the goals, structure and upcoming activities of the movement. Meetings with representatives of Ukrainian state authorities (including Aleksey Makeyev from Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yevgeni Samukh from the Office of the President’s Special Representative in Crimea) allowed to discuss cooperation opportunities between the civil society and the state. Volunteers also met with the Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people, Mr. Refat Chubarov, who emphasized the importance of international civil society in the process leading to the deoccupation of Crimea and thereby restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The substantive part of the training focused on techniques of non-violent and creative resistance, during workshops led by Ukrainian political artist Andriy Yermolenko and performance artist Galina Dzhikayeva. The training seminar was preceded by a press conference of the project led by the Estonian Institute of Human Rights as well as #LIBERATECRIMEA movement held at the Ukraine Crisis Media Centre. The press conference also included a presentation of the ongoing international campaign “United by flag - #LIBERATECRIMEA”.
